For the 3rd year in a row, poor early season growing conditions slowed the development of this year's dahlia crop. Bloom counts at all shows have once again been below average, but as usual a few good flowers always emerge to rule as best in show. Dick Porter's beautiful entry of Martina (M-FD-LB) captured the award for Best Single Bloom in the show. David and Leone Smith's perfectly match triple of Ryecroft Dave's Choice garnered the Best Triple Entry in show. They also won the Best 5 bloom Entry with a lovely quintuplet of Stevan's Vanda (M-FD-R). David Eldridge won the Best Basket in show with an enormous basket full of Magic Moments (A-SC-W). The Best Arrangement in show was won once again by Portland's most famous dahlia arranger, Gordon Jackman, with his extraordinary interpretation of "The Evergreen State Fair".
